Generally, weekends are a time to relax and unwind. A time to try to not think about work 24/7 and to catch up on “life”. As a teacher, we tend to relish these two days which, although often packed with sport, events, family and a multitude of domestic duties, help us reconnect with ourselves. Take a day out of the weekend for a work-related event and resentment accompanied by exhaustion is rarely far away.
Except in this case.
I have always loved eating but have recently developed a new appreciation and enthusiasm for cooking. I enjoy it much more now than I used to.
There is so much satisfaction to gain from being able to try something new without someone watching over your shoulder. And whether your endeavour is a success or an utter, complete failure or somewhere in between – you learn from the experience!
During our second lesson today, the class really started to clarify their thoughts and ideas for their Pecha Kucha presentation. We did a quick recap of the concept and they began to collect the key ideas which they would focus upon. It was vital that they decided what parts of the Foundations of Physical Activity unit were most relevant and interesting to them if they are to successfully take this learning leap.
The Pecha Kucha concept is one which I have been keen to explore more and experiment with at school. So the opportunity has presented itself with a short theory unit in one of our elective classes. Year 9 Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS) will be spending their next three theory lessons (one per fortnight) developing a Pecha Kucha presentation about the areas of the topic, Foundations of Physical Activity, which interest them the most. They will present them to the class in our final lesson of the term.
